Helen asks…

Effects of Protein Supplements on Muscle Gain?

Is there any conclusive, reliable and un-biased research on the effects of protein supplements on muscle gain? What are the conclusions the research has arrived at?

People tend to get very defensive about this topic, especially if they are using protein supplements. Please, try to be neutral towards the topic; I am looking only for facts supported by scientific research.

Workout answers:

Trust me, protein supplements arent bad, just make sure you know exactly what you’re putting in your body before you take it. Obviously if you’re not just taking a cheap supplement from ur local store and ur using the expensive kind AND ALSO working out properly then there would be a positive effect on your muscle gain. U dont need a scientific explanation to tell you that! Of coarse like with anything not approved by the F.D.A. “individual results may vary” i personally dont use supplements but i’m not against them either. Just dont take steroids!

Betty asks…

Where can I buy Whey protein supplement (muscle gain) online for international shipping?

I currently live in South Korea and finding protein powder here is nearly impossible.
And for some reason, when I google where to buy these online, none of the websites ship internationally.
Can anyone tell me where I can find a website that ships internationally?

Chris asks…

If trying to gain muscle, what supplements (protein, creatine, vitamins) should I add to my daily diet?

My head is spinning after trying to do research online, so here’s my problem:

I work out 6 days a week and have both whey protein for a protein shake and recovery drink creatine powder.

Thing is I’m confused about if I should only consume one of them, one before, one after, both after or whenever, for best results. I’m not trying to lose weight, but gain muscle. I also don’t know if I should be taking a bunch of vitamins to speed progress up or add protein bars.

So if I wanna gain muscle, what are the best supplements and when should I consume them during the day?

Workout answers:

The first thing you want o focus on besides supplements is your nutrition plan as well as your workout plan. If your nutrition is not dialed in, it will almost be impossible to have any gains. Also, you may be over training just a little…you have to give your body enough time to recover as that is when you make your gains. As far as when to consume your shakes this link wil explain that http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=So2tOtL0lR0&feature=related With vitamins, you really can do without if you are eating correctly and save some money. Protein bars, I would say the same thing..most are full of additives and fillers (candy bars) Your best best is a quality chemical free whey protein as there are so many benefits taking whey protein. Whey protein is a naturally complete protein, meaning that it contains all of the essential amino acids required in the daily diet. It has the ideal combination of amino acids to help improve body composition and enhance athletic performance.
Whey protein is a rich source of branched chain amino acids (BCAAs), containing the highest known levels of any natural food source. BCAAs are important for athletes since unlike the other essential amino acids, they are metabolized directly into muscle tissue and are the first ones used during periods of exercise and resistance training. Whey protein provides the body with BCAAs to replenish depleted levels and start repairing and rebuilding lean muscle tissue.
Whey protein is an excellent source of the essential amino acid, leucine. Leucine is important for athletes as it plays a key role in promoting muscle protein synthesis and muscle growth. Research has shown that individuals who exercise benefit from diets high in leucine and have more lean muscle tissue and less body fat compared to individuals whose diet contains lower levels of leucine. Whey protein isolate has approximately 50% more leucine than soy protein isolate.

Oh yeah..as far as a recovery drink, just take your whey with some powdered Gatorade or nesquick (cheap and effective. Hope this helped you a little. Cheers

Robert asks…

Will taking Protein supplements like Muscle Milk make me gain muscle and weight?

I am currently trying to loose weight, I am 190 and trying to hit either 180 or 175. But I was curious if muscle milk would help me or hurt me? or taking Certain tablets? would this put muscle on me? I do not work out much, and its very minor things like push ups and sit ups.
Thanks for the help!

Workout answers:

If your not working out – Muscle milk and other shakes are nothing more then healthy calories. You will gain weight if your calorie intake is higher then your energy output.
